5 Healthy Ways To Bring Beauty To Cancer

Leave it to Kris Carr to make cancer crazy and sexy. But leave it to Kristen Arnett and the Green Beauty Team to help cancer patients feel and look beautiful.

Her secret ingredient? Kristen sees all her clients as beautiful when they first walk through her doors. In fact, she isn't trying to minimize their flaws—though that's a byproduct of her work. In her own words, she views makeup as "a catalyst for transformation."

"If I approach [my clients] with this idea that I see beauty, and what I'm doing is enhancing this inherent beauty that I see, it allows them to see their own beauty differently," she explained. "It gives them an opportunity to stop focusing on the flaw that they've become obsessed with and start seeing all of these amazing components of who they are."

This positive energy and approach to beauty translate into her work with women undergoing chemo treatments. That may explain why she was once on a Skype chat with a breast cancer patient and suddenly the whole town showed up to listen to what she had to say!

Whether she is skyping with a cancer patient or doing makeup on models for runways, her commitment to using green beauty products remains the same. Naturally, for people faced with disease, that commitment is a key factor in their healing.

Here are five of her expert tips for making a cancer patient look and feel beautiful:

1) Support your system first. Once the body is receiving the nurturing it needs, it can achieve a more balanced state. Eliminating toxic chemicals from cosmetics and around the home are ways to boost the body's ability to fight disease.

2) Go with how you feel that day. Some days may be worse than others. Beauty can be part of each day as long as expectations are realistic. Some days, incorporating essential oils like jasmine and merely breathing it in and centering around that experience is uplifting. It invokes a feeling of beauty from within.

3) Choose authentic natural products. Most traditional brands contain chemicals that are linked to cancer—including some big name brands that support the fight against cancer! Two certified organic skin care labels she trusts are Intelligent Nutrients and Dr. Alkaitis. For beauty, she is partial to RMS Beauty and Alima Pure.

One client was so amazed by the revelations that Kristen taught her about the chemicals used in products she was using that she said, "I can not believe this entire time I've been paying companies to basically make me sick."

4) Intention matters. Merely slapping on a face cream will not enhance self-image, but having a conversation with yourself about well-being does. A healthy inner dialogue can raise energy levels.

"Your body releases a different set of chemicals when you're thinking happy, positive thoughts and another set of chemicals when thinking negative thoughts," Kristen said, referring to many studies proving this point.

5) Pick your favorite part of your face and then play it up. If it's eyebrows that have thinned or fallen out due to chemo treatments, draw them back in. If it's lips, add a pop of color that doesn't contain lead and makes you feel gorgeous, like Revolution Organics or Primitive Lipstick, both sold here.
