Announcing the launch of a new website for the book "PLAGUE: One Scientist's Intrepid Search for the Truth about Human Retroviruses and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Autism, and Other Diseases", by Kent Heckenlively and Dr. Judy Mikovits. The book is being released by Skyhorse Publishing on July 1, 2014.

Heckenlively is best known as an autism advocate and co-founder of the web-site Age of Autism.  Dr. Mikovits is a 20-year veteran of the National Cancer Institute who has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, many in the world's top medical journal and has been profiled in Discover magazine as well as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.

As an autism advocate, one of the things which had long drawn Heckenlively's attention was that so many of the mothers of children with autism had at one point in their life been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, or like his wife, appeared to have sub-clinical indications of the disorder.  An immune-altering retrovirus might explain many of the observations among autism parents, including heavy metal retention, unexplained bacterial and viral infections, parasites, and an entire host of other puzzling findings.  In many ways, it looked like the AIDS epidemic, except these children were losing their futures instead of their lives.

"I must confess that the two years I spent writing PLAGUE have changed many of my views," says co-author Kent Heckenlively.  "I've been deeply impressed by the humanity and compassion of many scientists, while at the same time have become more keenly aware of the political and financial obstacles which prevent scientists from making the type of contributions to the well-being of society that they imagined at the beginning of their careers."
