U.S. Government Ties El Salvador USD 277 M Aid Package to Monsanto’s GMO Seeds

It has come to light that the U.S. government is withholding $277 million in aid money from El Salvador in order to pressure it to accept Monsanto's GM seeds.
Originally published on Sustainable Pulse It has come to light that the U.S. government is withholding $277 million in aid money from El Salvador in order to pressure it to accept Monsanto's GM seeds. The President of the El Salvadoran Center for Appropriate Technologies (CESTA), Ricardo Navarro, has demanded that the U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador, Mari Carmen Aponte, stops pressurizing the Government of El Salvador to buy Monsanto's GM seeds rather than non-GMO seeds from domestic suppliers. "I would like to tell the U.S. Ambassador to stop pressuring the Government (of El Salvador) to buy 'improved' GM seeds," said Navarro, which is only of benefit to U.S. multinationals and is to the detriment of local seed production, Verdad Digital reported last week. In recent weeks, the U.S. has been pushing the El Salvadoran Government to sign the second Millennium Challenge Compact. One of the main conditions on the agreement is allegedly for the purchasing of GM seeds from Monsanto. Why You Are Dead Wrong If You Think GMOs Are Safe

Given the weight of the research, you are insane if you consume GMOs. Here's why...
You are insane if you are drinking Biotech's GMO-infused Kool-Aid. Here's why... Let's put aside the debate about antigenic proteins introduced by transgenes in GMO crops. Transgenes are genes from species that are not naturally present in crops of feed or food importance, e.g. spider genes, bacterial genes, viral genes, etc. These transgenes are capable of producing proteins in the plants that have never been in the human diet over the course of human evolution, stretching back thousands, even millions of years. GM proponents and regulators claim pseudo-scientifically that these novel new GM foods are 'substantially equivalent' to conventional ones, despite a lack of human clinical toxicology studies to prove it; or, they claim that these proteins are inconsequential and do not represent a threat to human health, or the health of the biosphere as whole because they say so – a plea to their own self-appointed, baseless authority. This debate about whether or not GMO foods contain problematic proteins is meant to confuse and distract from the real issue that if you eat corn, soy, cottonseed or canola containing GMO products – and everyone does since nothing is truthfully labeled – you are ingesting glyphosate (aka Roundup) residues. How can I say that? Because these ungodly organisms have been designed to survive the equivalent of a chemical apocalypse. GM Monoculturing using glyphosate-resistant plants requires the widespread application of a systemic life-killing...

GMO Insulin Causes Type 1 Diabetes in Type 2 Diabetics, Study Finds

A groundbreaking new study finds synthetic (GMO) insulin is capable of rapidly producing type 1 diabetes in type 2 diabetics.
A groundbreaking new study finds synthetic (GMO) insulin is capable of rapidly producing type 1 diabetes in type 2 diabetics. Last year, we reported on the dangers of insulin therapy for type 2 diabetics, following the publication of a study comprised of almost 85,000 type 2 diabetic patients that found insulin monotherapy doubled their risk of all-cause mortality, in addition to significantly increasing their risk for diabetes-related complications and cancer. Insulin monotherapy resulted in: 2.0 times more myocardial infarctions. 1.7 time more major adverse cardiac events 1.4 time more strokes 3.5 times more renal complications 2.1 time more neuropathy 1.2 times more eye complications 1.4 times more cancer 2.2 times more deaths Now, a new study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism titled, "Insulin administration may trigger type 1 diabetes in Japanese type 2 diabetes patients with type 1 diabetes high-risk HLA class II and the insulin gene VNTR genotype," is shedding light on a possible explanation for why insulin treatment may accelerate morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetics. The study revealed that giving genetically susceptible type 2 diabetes patients recombinant insulin can trigger their bodies to target their own insulin producing cells for autoimmune destruction, effectively producing 'double diabetes': type 1 and type 2, as a result. The Japanese study took 6 patients (4 men and 2 women) with...

Can GMOs Help Feed the World?

Are genetically engineered farming practices the solution to world hunger? Or is biodynamic agriculture the real solution?
The claims about genetically engineered foods have been quite lofty. Monsanto and other proponents of biotechnology are fond of saying that genetic engineering is necessary if the world's food supply is to keep up with seven billion people and counting. They claim GE crops produce higher yields, solve pest and weed problems, are safe for humans and the environment, and are the cure for world hunger. As John Robbins writes, if Monsanto's true goal is addressing hunger, then their seeds would be designed to fix the core problems that underlie the hunger issue, such as:[1] Able to grow on substandard or marginal soils Able to produce more high-quality protein with increased per-acre yield, without the need for expensive machinery, chemicals, fertilizers or water Engineered to favor small farms over larger farms Cheap and freely available without restrictive licensing Designed for crops that feed people, not livestock If GE foods were really a viable way to eliminate world hunger, then meeting these challenges would be a powerful argument in their favor, would it not? So, what does the science say? Monsanto gets a failing grade across the board. With nearly 100 million acres of GE food now planted worldwide, Monsanto's crops have yet to do one thing to alleviate hunger, particularly for the world's less fortunate. In fact, most of that acreage is devoted to growing corn and transgenic soybeans for livestock feed. GE Crops Produce a Higher Yield ......

Why Should I Care About GMOs?

For the past 20 years, GMOs have been allowed to permeate our food supply, with government regulators & industry spreading the myth of their safety, despite the contrary evidence. Why should you care?
What if you found out that your child was being slipped a dangerous drug in his school lunches, without your consent? What if you discovered that this drug never underwent the usual safety testing, as the government turned a bind eye? Would you be shocked? Outraged? Or perhaps in a state of profound denial that something so egregious could happen in this country? This may seem like a nightmare scenario that could never happen in the United States of America, in a democracy valuing freedom and consent. But the shocking truth is that it happens every day. I'm not talking about a drug, per se, but your family is being exposed to something potentially even MORE destructive: GMOs, or genetically modified organisms. Like the hypothetical drug scenario, in the early 1990s, GMO technology was rushed to market, allowed to skip the normal safety checks. No rigorous scientific vetting, no peer reviewed safety studies. Just a quiet, green light with a wink and a nod from our government to the biotech industry. Scientists opposing GMOs were ignored and hushed—even those within the FDA. The fact that GMOs are dangerous and unpredictable has been known, but suppressed, for decades. In the late 1980s, the L-tryptophan epidemic that killed 37 people and crippled thousands more was traced to genetically engineered ingredients.[1] [2] For the past 20 years, GMOs have been allowed to permeate our food supply, with government regulators and industry spreading the myth of their safety, despite...

German Supermarket Giants Demand Return to GMO-Free Fed Poultry

Germany's top supermarkets have delivered a blow to the biotech industry by forcing the German poultry industry to return to the use of non-GMO feed.
Germany's top supermarkets, the powerhouses of Europe when it comes to retail, have delivered a blow to the biotech industry by forcing the German poultry industry to return to the use of non-GMO feed. Global GMO Free Coalition on Facebook It was announced last Thursday that the German supermarkets, with a broad consensus, recently demanded from the German Poultry Association (ZDG) to stop using GMO feed for both egg and poultry meat production, starting from January 1st 2015. That is the date when the retailers want to receive GMO-free fed products again, meaning poultry suppliers will have to rush to get their feed supply chains free from GMO feed once more. German language source: www.db.zs-intern.de In February this year, the ZDG unilaterally declared that it was stopping using GM-free animal feed, following similar moves by other associations in England and Denmark. The reasons provided for the step after over a decade of GMO-free feeding were an alleged shortage of GMO-free soya, the risk of contamination, and the associated legal uncertainty. However, following close consultation with Brazilian authorities, the German supermarkets have realized that the reasons given by ZDG do not stand up: There is clearly enough Brazilian GMO-free feed in the system to supply Europe's needs. Global GMO Free Coalition Coordinator, Henry Rowlands, stated: "The wool has been pulled over the eyes of retailers across Europe by the GMO industry over the past year. We welcome the...

Pressure Applied on the US Codex Office Regarding GMO-Contaminated Infant Formula

Why is Codex fortifying infant formula, follow-up formula, cereals and NRVs for infants and children with GMO-contaminated ingredients?
The National Health Federation (NHF) participated in an FDA-arranged conference call earlier this week in preparation for the U.S. position to be taken at the upcoming meeting of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses to be held in Bali, Indonesia, this late November. The topic was the proposed draft Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) for labeling purposes in the guidelines on nutrition labeling. This is a joint FAO/WHO food standards program purportedly designed to protect children at risk from malnutrition and wasting by using fortified infant formula, follow-up formula, cereals, and also to set NRVs for infants and children. Unfortunately, Codex is allowing "fortification" with GMO-contaminated ingredients and that turned out to be the focus of the conference call. There were only 21 present on the call despite the fact it is open to the general public. This conference call was conducted using the same protocol as in regular Codex meetings and participants were invited to speak at the end of reviewing the various sections up for debate. Sadly, fluoride is up for consideration to receive an NRV. Most likely, it will not receive an NRV in this Codex committee; but Fluoride will be reviewed for assignment of an NRV for Non-Communicable Diseases by a Working Group that the United States is working on. NHF will continue to follow this issue as our documented position has always been that Fluoride is toxic at any of the levels and for any of the...

World’s Largest Ever Study on GMO, Pesticide Safety Launched in London

The world's largest study on GMO & Pesticide safety will answer whether GMO food and associated pesticide, like Glyphosate/Roundup, are safe for human health.
The world's largest study on GMO & Pesticide safety will answer whether GMO food and associated pesticide, like Glyphosate/Roundup, are safe for human health. The $25 million "Factor GMO" study will investigate the health effects of a genetically modified (GMO) crop that has been in our food and animal feed supplies for many years. It will answer the question: Is this GMO food and associated pesticide (Glyphosate/Roundup) safe for human health? Farmers, retailers, governments, scientists and consumers have been involved in a heated international debate since GM foods were introduced in 1994. However, there has never been a scientific study that is comprehensive enough to give them a clear answer regarding the safety for human health of any one GM food – until now. Factor GMO will also add invaluable data of unprecedented power to enable regulators, governments and the general public of every country to answer the question: Is the GM food and associated pesticide tested safe at real-world levels of consumption and exposure? Study Summary Factor GMO's preparatory phase started in early 2014. The full experiment will begin in 2015 and will last 2-3 years, with interim results being published at regular intervals during that time. The study will test a herbicide-tolerant GM maize and realistic levels of the glyphosate herbicide it is engineered to be grown with on a total of over 6000 rats. The study will take place at undisclosed locations in Western Europe and Russia....

Global GMO Free Coalition Set to Help Fund World’s Largest GMO Safety Study

The Global GMO Free Coalition welcomes the launch of the largest ever study on GMO and pesticide safety – Factor GMO.
The Global GMO Free Coalition welcomes the launch of the largest ever study on GMO and pesticide safety – Factor GMO. This is the type of study that should have been carried out on all GM foods before they were released into our food and feed supplies. Factor GMO will include three arms: carcinogenicity, toxicity and multi-generational. These arms will give clear information on the health impacts of the Roundup Ready GM maize variety being studied and the glyphosate herbicide with which it is grown. Glyphosate-based herbicides are the most widely used pesticides in the world. Monsanto's Roundup herbicide is just one of these glyphosate-based herbicides and it accounts for 20% of Monsanto's net profits every year. Factor GMO will give a clear idea of what level of harm glyphosate-based herbicides cause to human health and will also identify whether Roundup (which includes glyphosate and other ingredients) is more harmful to human health than glyphosate on its own. The Global GMO Free Coalition (GGFC) urges governments and regulatory authorities worldwide to use the precautionary principle regarding GM crops and glyphosate / Roundup until the results of this comprehensive study are released over the next 3 years. Any other decision by regulatory authorities will leave them open to future accusations of endangering public health based on a lack of comprehensive evidence on the safety of GM crops and their associated pesticides. Help Fund Factor GMO Factor GMO has already...
